Explore the Architectural Masterpieces in the Battambang Province of Cambodia

Millions of tourists from all over the world head towards Cambodia to spend their vacations to explore the mystical southeastern nation. Battambang, the north-western province of Cambodia, is known for structures with fabulous designs and breathtaking architecture and this distinction in architecture acts as a primary reason why people from all parts of the world are attracted to it. The legend of King Kranhoung’s staff is associated with the name ‘Battambang’ which literally means ‘loss of stick’ and refers to the story which says that after being thrown the King’s staff landed in this region.

Built during the reign of King ‘Soriyak Varman I’ starting from year 1002 to 1050, the Ba Set Temple stands tall on top of a hill in Ba Set village. The beautiful temple which was completed in 1042 is located around 15 kilometers away from Ta Pune commune. Ba Set temple is an excellent specimen of 11th Century architecture with distinct French influences. A nearby lake which is 10 meters deep in normal weather also adds to beauty and is an attractive spot for tourists.

Another structure having French style of architecture is the Wat Ek Temple which was built in the 11th Century and is a place that every tourist loves to visit. The Wat Ek Temple was completed by King Sorayak Varman I in 1027 and you can reach it from the provincial capital after a drive of 14 kilometers.

As opposed to Wat Ek Temple and Ba Set Temple which are unique examples of 11th Century structures, the Ba Nan Temple’s architecture has a great mix of designs associated with two separate Centuries as it was started in the later half of 11th Century by King Ut Tak Yea Tit Tya Varman II until it the building was finally completed in the 12th Century under King Jayavarman VII. You can visit the Ba Nan District in order to view the magnificent Ba Nan Temple easily from Battambang city as the distance is merely 15 kilometers. Reaching Ba Nan Temple is nothing short of a mini adventure as you have to climb the 400 meters high Koh Tey 2 commune on top of which the temple stands. Historians and archaeologists consider Ba Set Temple, Sa Nana Temple and Wat Ek Temple as three invaluable pieces of art and architecture accurately manifesting a Buddhist worship place.

Apart from the traditional temples, Cambodia also contains a great tourist attraction in the shape of three stupas located in Snung Pagoda commune on a hill about 22 kilometers away from Battambang city. When you go to have a look at these three beautiful stupas, you’ll notice that the design of gates has a touch of 12th Century architecture.

In order to see the natural side of Cambodia, the Sek Sak resort is a perfect place for tourists to visit. The entertainment resort full of all kinds of trees is located along side the River bank and covers an area of more than 500 meters. Situated with the National road in the Sam Puoy commune is yet another resort which helps you appreciate the natural beauty in the north-western province of Cambodia. Cambodia offers something for everyone as from large Buddhist temples to serene countryside; the tourists find this country as an ideal spot to spend their vacations, in particular, the Battambang province.
