Greece : Attractions Not To Miss Out On

Thoughts of Greece conjure pictures of grand architecture, sparkling beaches, and ideal climate. These images come to mind due to the fact that those thoughts are quite accurate. Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations anywhere on Earth thanks to its breathtaking scenery and sense of history. When you take the balmy Mediterranean climate and match it up with the sights to see, Greece is an obvious vacation hotspot. Following are some of Greece’s must see attractions.

Possibly the most recognized feature of Greece is the Acropolis. This ancient city is a testament to perseverance in the face of war and passing time. High on a hill, it presents a breathtaking vista from afar and veritably glows in the setting sun. The most distinct aspect of the Acropolis is arguably the Parthenon. Built in dedication to the Greek goddess Athena, this beautiful example of Doric architecture beckons tourists with its grandiose allure and deep-rooted history. Carvings upon the structure known as metopes depict various battles and incidents derived from Greece’s past.

Visitors to Greece are certainly not confined to the mainland when looking for something to do. A quick jaunt to the island of Crete exposes tourists to a historic land. It was the hub of the Minoans, considered by many historians to be the first true example of civilization. Chania, one of Crete’s largest cities, offers glimpses of a bygone era via its buildings and houses that began life as long ago as during the Venetian eras. Some of the island’s most beautiful beaches are found near Chania, but there are almost limitless options for swimming and sunning in style all over Crete.

Every summer season, Greece is host to the Hellenic Festival. This is a celebration of the arts that has become one of the most important events in the entire country. Music and dance abounds at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus Theatre as performers from all over the world entertain the crowds. During the Hellenic Festival, lovers of popular music can take in a concert atop Lykavittos Hill, while theater enthusiasts will find a wonderful show at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. The Little Theatre of Epidaurus cannot be forgotten, as it hosts entertaining plays as well.

Greece is a country that appeals to the tastes of all sorts of people. Whether you enjoy the great outdoors, love to visit historic sites, or take in a play, there is something for you in this Mediterranean paradise. Its history and entertainment are unmatched.
